1. ❌ Not a Clinical Diagnosis

The screening tools available on PsychSelfTest — including the Autism Test, ADHD Test, IQ Test, and MBTI Personality Test — are educational self-assessment tools only. They are explicitly not clinical diagnostic instruments and cannot be used as the basis for any clinical diagnosis.

A positive or high-scoring result on any of our tests does not mean you have autism, ADHD, a specific IQ level, or any other psychological or medical condition. Similarly, a negative or low-scoring result does not mean you do not have a condition — many conditions are underdiagnosed even by formal instruments, let alone educational screening tools.

⚠️ Only a licensed and qualified clinical professional — such as a clinical psychologist, psychiatrist, developmental paediatrician, or neuropsychologist — can provide a formal diagnosis of autism, ADHD, or any other neurodevelopmental or psychological condition.

2. 🏥 Not Medical or Professional Advice

Nothing on PsychSelfTest — including test questions, scoring systems, result descriptions, educational articles, or any other content — constitutes medical advice, psychological advice, psychiatric advice, or any other form of professional healthcare advice.

The content on this website is intended for general educational and informational purposes only. It should not be used to:

  • Self-diagnose any condition or disorder
  • Replace a consultation with a qualified healthcare professional
  • Make healthcare decisions without professional guidance
  • Determine whether medication, therapy, or other treatment is appropriate
  • Provide diagnoses or assessments to other people, including family members or children

Always seek the advice of a qualified healthcare professional for any questions you may have regarding a medical or psychological condition. Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of something you have read on PsychSelfTest.

3. 📊 Test Accuracy and Limitations

Our screening tools are inspired by validated psychological instruments and frameworks. However, they are not themselves validated or standardised clinical tests. Their accuracy is subject to the following limitations:

  • Self-report bias: All results depend on the honesty and self-awareness of the person answering. People often answer how they think they should feel, rather than how they actually feel.
  • Lack of clinical norming: Our tests are not standardised against a representative clinical population in a controlled research setting.
  • Snapshot results: Mental health, cognition, and personality are dynamic. A test taken on a bad day, during stress, or under other unusual circumstances may not reflect your typical profile.
  • Cultural and linguistic factors: Our tests are written in English and developed with Western psychological frameworks in mind. Results may not translate equally across all cultural contexts.
  • Co-occurring conditions: Many psychological conditions share overlapping symptoms. Our tests screen for specific traits and cannot distinguish between conditions that present similarly.
  • Age appropriateness: Child-focused versions of our tests are designed for parent completion and are appropriate screening tools only, not diagnostic replacements for specialist paediatric assessment.

What our tests are good for: Building self-awareness, identifying patterns worth exploring, preparing for professional consultations, educational curiosity, and understanding psychological frameworks. Used in this spirit, they can be genuinely valuable.

4. 🧪 Per-Test Specific Disclaimers

🔬 Autism Test
Educational screening inspired by the AQ-10 and M-CHAT frameworks. Not a replacement for formal ASD assessment by a clinical psychologist or developmental specialist. Autism diagnosis requires comprehensive clinical evaluation including structured observation, interview, and standardised testing.
⚡ ADHD Test
Educational screening inspired by the WHO ASRS and Conners' scales. Not a replacement for formal ADHD assessment by a psychiatrist or psychologist. ADHD diagnosis requires evidence of symptoms across multiple settings since childhood, plus ruling out alternative explanations.
🧩 IQ Test
Provides an estimated cognitive score for educational purposes only. Not a certified or standardised IQ test. Official IQ scores require administration of tests such as the WAIS-IV under controlled conditions by a licensed psychologist. Online IQ tests consistently overestimate true IQ scores.
🌀 MBTI Test
An MBTI-inspired personality assessment. Not the official Myers-Briggs Type Indicator® published by The Myers-Briggs Company. Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and MBTI are registered trademarks of The Myers-Briggs Company. Personality types are tendencies, not fixed traits or limitations.

5. 🆘 When to Seek Professional Help

Regardless of your test results, please seek immediate professional support if you are experiencing any of the following:

  • Thoughts of harming yourself or others
  • Suicidal thoughts, feelings, or impulses
  • Severe depression, anxiety, or panic that impairs daily functioning
  • Psychosis, hallucinations, or losing touch with reality
  • Severe changes in mood, behaviour, or personality
  • Inability to care for yourself or your dependants
  • Any medical emergency

🆘 If you are in immediate danger, call your local emergency services (999 in the UK, 911 in the US, 000 in Australia) or go to your nearest emergency department immediately.
